This is the first book I've read by John Mason, and I've really enjoyed it. This book offers encouragement, and peace as you read through Scripture. It is easy to read and understand. The devotional/prayer is a unique way to study God's Word and spend time with Him as you read the full proverb, followed by a prayer based off of the chapter. Each prayer is unique and heartfelt. Many of the prayers are what you want, but don't know how to say, and already written out. If you enjoy devotionals then you will enjoy going through Proverbs Prayers.

It's Not What You Think

Summary:  New York Times best-selling author of Jesus > Religion challenges the accepted thinking of contemporary Christianity with the world-changing message Jesus actually brought.
Jesus was most upset at people for seeing but not seeing. For missing it. For succumbing to the danger and idolatry of forcing God into preconceived ideals. What if there were a better way? What if Jesus came not to help people escape the world but rather to restore it? Best-selling author and spoken word artist Jefferson Bethke says that “Christians have the greatest story ever told but we aren’t telling it.” So in this new book, Bethke tells that story anew, presenting God’s truths from the Old and the New Testaments as the challenging and compelling story that it is—a grand narrative with God at the center. And in doing so, Bethke reminds readers of the life-changing message of Jesus that turned the world upside-down, a world that God is putting back together.

I'm a fan of both Jeff Bethke and his wife Alyssa. (And their little girl Kinsley. She's adorable).
I first read Alyssa's book Spoken For. I then picked up Jesus>Religion, and loved it. I recently was able to get the opportunity to review Jeff Bethke's latest book, It's Not What You Think. This book is full of a lot of truths and reminders that we can easily forget.
Reminding us that many of the things in life are not actually what we think. Thast we end up making rules for ourselves, when they're just ideas. That life isn't suppose to strangle you with rules, but not to free you from responsibility either.

Bethke shows us some of the meanings of a different culture, and how many of us Americans have lost the gift of fellowship and community with one another. That the scars from the things of your past are not something to hide with shame, but to proudly wear them, declaring what you've overcome.

You are the change. We often trap ourselves with ideas and the hope to please others. You are an unique individual who God has called to make a difference, and it might not even be that big and amazing, but itll shinr brightky to othrrs. The way you live your life show testimony to who you are. Don't waste your life.
