Adela's Curse Cover Reveal

Hello all! Today I'm taking part of Claire Banschbach's cover reveal for Adela's Curse. Hope you'll check it out, it looks really interesting!

Synopsis
A witch and her master capture a young faery and command her to kill their enemy. Adela has no choice but to obey. If she does not, they will force the location of her people’s mountain home from her and kill her. To make matters even worse, the person she is to kill is only a man struggling to save his dying land and mend a broken heart.
Count Stefan is a man simply trying to forget the woman he loves and save a land crippled by drought. When a mysterious woman arrives at his castle claiming to be a seamstress, he knows she is more than she seems.
Adela enlists the help of Damian, another faery, to try and delay the inevitable. He insists she has a choice. But with the witch controlling her every move, does she?

Flash Fiction

So, I joined a Flash Fiction challenge a couple weeks ago: Have a picture prompt, write between 100 and 1,000 words. This was my first attempt, and sadly I had so many things going on that I could not write as much as I wanted. Perhaps I'll eventually turn the story into a Serial Story for once a month, as I have an idea for where the story can go, but we'll see. Let me know in the comments of your thoughts and suggestions!

She made her way carefully on the steep and narrow forest path. Frequently glancing behind her. Pulling her cloak close around her, she held tightly to the bundle underneath as she continued on. The forest’s shadows dancing around her as she traveled. She had just begun to breath easier when she heard something behind her. Quickly turning around she was met by a sword held straight at her. Giving a small cry of alarm she tried to get away, but she was surrounded. Her heart quickened as the shadows of more men came from the woods. Their leader came up to her, looking her up and down, “What are you doing here?” he asked sternly. Trembling, she clutched her bundle closer to her. The man took another step closer to her, his tall form seemed menacing. She took a step back, but the swords kept her from making any other moves. The leader pushed her cloak away, revealing a newborn baby. Strength seemed to suddenly leave the woman, “Please,” was all she whispered before collapsing.

Merchant of Alyss

Summary: Life for Hyam is bittersweet. Admired by the citizens of Falmouth for his heroic rescue mission, he cherishes these peaceful days with Joelle by his side. Yet grief over the loss of his magical skills during the great Battle of Emporis threatens to engulf him. Sometimes he even wishes he had never known magic at all.

When Hyam comes into possession of an ancient Milantian scroll, he is thrilled to feel the surge of power that courses through him whenever he touches it. But what he discerns in the text could mean war. He embarks upon another journey to determine its true meaning and forestall any attack. But as Hyam is seeking answers, he is unaware that the merchant of Alyss is seeking him

I loved Emissary, the first book in this series, and had high expectations for Merchant of Alyss. The storyline was great and I loved getting to join Hyam again on another journey. An evil overtaking the land, and an unseen enemy attacking. Visits with the elves, a new red mage, dragons, ancient scrolls with a writing only seen by Hyam, a battle, and a mysterious island. With his hidden past, Hyam soon discovers the forbidden history of a battle long ago connects with himself. Soon traveling with his companions to get answers, and to fight an unknown enemy. When his party is attacked, and his wife under a death like curse, Hyam must cross new terrains, meeting mythical beasts, and dark enemies to save the land and his wife.

Thomas Locke is a great writer. This is the second book I've read by him, and his style of writing kept me glued to the pages. Though, unfortunately, the book had a few things I did not enjoy.
The rating of this book would have been higher if not for the fact one of the characters fell in love with someone who was already married. It seemed to keep coming up again and again, and I did not enjoy that the author kept bringing it up. I hope that the next book in the series Mr. Locke will exclude the unneeded love, as I really enjoy this series.

I would rate this book 3.5 out of 5 stars
I received this book free from the publisher for a honest review
