Miriam

Summary: The Hebrews call me prophetess, the Egyptians a seer.But I am neither. I am simply a watcher of Israel
and the messenger of El Shaddai.
When He speaks to me in dreams, I interpret. When He whispers a melody, I sing.

At eighty-six, Miriam had devoted her entire life to loving El Shaddai and serving His people as both midwife and messenger. Yet when her brother Moses returns to Egypt from exile, he brings a disruptive message. God has a new name – Yahweh – and has declared a radical deliverance for the Israelites.

 Miriam and her beloved family face an impossible choice: cling to familiar bondage or embrace uncharted freedom at an unimaginable cost. Even if the Hebrews survive the plagues set to turn the Nile to blood and unleash a maelstrom of frogs and locusts, can they weather the resulting fury of the Pharaoh?

Enter an exotic land where a cruel Pharaoh reigns, pagan priests wield black arts, and the Israelites cry out to a God they only think they know.

                                                                   ~~~
I've read two other books by Mesu Andrews and I loved both of them. Miriam is a book like no other. I've never read a novel about Moses' sister, so I was excited to get my hands on it, and it has been worth it. I cheered and cried for the characters, living among those who lived through the plagues, and the whole time I've been reading it the whole story and the characters have seemed real and personal. Mesu does a great way of bringing the Bible story to life in a way none of us could imagine.
I loved the main character Miriam, a kind and amazing 86 year old that is stubborn and loving. After being the Hebrew's midwife and prophetess for years she finds herself hearing less and less from El Shaddai. She fears losing the connection forever, but she soon realized that God, now Yahweh, wants all of Hi people to experience what Miriam has for her whole life.
Mesu Andrews is an amazing author. She thoroughly researches each of her novels, and brings a new way to imagine Biblical times. Her style of writing is different from any other author I've read, and I love it. Though her books are not 100% for sure of what happened, they bring you into a world in which you can only experience from opening one of Mesu's novels.
I would rate this book 5 out of  5 stars
Character Interview
So before I begin I'm just going to say that I'll hopefully be posting things other than reviews. (Writing related stuff) So for my first non-review post I will be doing a Character Interview. Rachael Steele kindly let me interview two of her characters from her current work in progress Iris. (The characters have special abilities/powers, just so you know)
So let's get started.
Logan:    Iris:
LOGAN                                                                    IRIS
“So Iris, how about you tell a little bit about yourself?”
Well I have two brothers, but I only like one. *grins* I like to climb rock walls, but normal walls are fun.
“Siblings can be quite the hassle. Here's the next question: How did you get your powers?”
Um, my brother, the one I don’t like, yeah, he has this serum and so I accepted the gift.
*turns to Logan* “And how do you know Iris?”
Uhhh, well, we went to the SADT military academy together.
“What does SADT stand for?”
Strategy And Defense Team
“Do you have abilities similar Iris’s?
Absolutely not! I have eight plus abilities, all of which are epic.
“What do the two of you do for a living?”
Logan works for an anti-SADT organization and I just work for him, but I don’t get paid.
“What are some of the pros about being a spy?”
Well, Iris doesn’t have pros, but I get a lot of money and respect.
“Do you guys often come across others with strange powers?”
Nope, I haven’t, and neither has Logan.
“Iris, who would you say is your closest friend, and why? Do you have any enemies?
I am going to have to say Liam, just because he’s my only friend. Um, yeah, everyone else excluding Grant and my brother Flynn is my enemy.
“Logan, what would you say are your greatest qualities?”
Probably my skill and deceptive nature.
“Iris, what would you say are your worst qualities?”
My trusting nature. If I didn’t have that, I wouldn’t have made friends with a certain guy...
“Well, that’s it for today. Thanks for coming guys.”
Thank you so much for having us!
Summary: With his twenty-first birthday, Hyam begins a journey that will lead him to his destiny--or his doom.
Hyam has always shown a remarkable ability to master languages, even those left unspoken for a thousand years. But now the shadow of suspicion that was cast upon him as a child prodigy at Long Hall is lengthening, and he must keep his identity hidden--or face annihilation.
As Hyam's mother slips toward death, she implores him to return to Long Hall before he settles down to farm his land. This journey born from duty becomes an impassioned quest for the truth. War is coming swiftly, and Hyam must rely upon his newfound powers and the friends he meets along the way in order to unravel the puzzling past and ensure that he--and the realm--will have a future.
Emissary was a fun read. Thomas Locke did a great job writing it. I was held captive the whole time. Not stopping until I had finished it. The characters are realistic, and the plot line exciting. In Emissary you get to explore a new land, culture, and history. Taken on a journey were there is magic, friendship, a forbidden past, and danger.
  You meet Hyam, a newly turned adult of 21. He has lived his life as a farmer until his parents die, only to find out they were not his biological parents. He then begins to search for truth, and to fight the enemy that is lurking in the shadows.
Joelle is a girl that has been alone ever since her parents died. Coming close to death, she recovers, but is exiled to one of the Long Halls, where she secretly teaches herself and prepares to one day escape. But when terrifying dreams start trotting her sleep, she may find that her dreamed escape may be full of more adventure than she thought.
Along with other characters like Brynn, Trace, Meda, Adler and more. You'll have quite the adventure.
A great book if you love fantasy fiction, adventure, and excitement.
